Green
Park just off Piccadilly is a prime place to hire a deck chair
and take it easy for a while.

 |
 |
Greenwich
Park
is well worth a visit if you are in that part of town. Located on
the hill behind the National Maritime Museum it offers panoramic
views of Docklands and the lower stretches of the Thames. |
 |
 |
Hyde
Park stretches from Kensington in the west to Park Lane in the
east, 340 acres in all. Sit and relax in one of the lakeside restaurants
overlooking the Serpentine Lake.

Regent's
Park
is to the north of the city centre, surrounded by Palladian mansions
and the Regent's Park canal. There is also an open air theatre
and London Zoo (see above) is in the top part of the park.

 |
 |
St
James's Park is excellent for views of Buckingham Palace
to the west and Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament
to the east.

The
Royal Botanical Gardens is
located out of town in Kew. This is more of a scientific
institute than a park, covering over 300 acres. Admission is charged,
but Kew has a huge selection of flowers and shrubs (40,000 species
and varieties) and the largest range of orchids in the world. Six
glasshouses, two art galleries, visitor centre, restored Japanese
gateway and landscape, the Royal Botanical Gardens are not to be
missed.
